Recommendations
These recommendations are based on research, science and actual experience with horses for best results. Please contact your veterinarian for more advice on changing feed rations for your horses.
Most of our ingredients mix well with pellets or grain. They can also be easily fed alone dry or on an apple. Store ingredients in a dry place.
Chia
- We recommend feeding the seeds dry. Allow the seeds to absorb water in the digestive tract. As they expand, the soft fiber does incredible work.
- Mixing chia seeds with 1 cup pre-soaked grass or alfalfa pellets makes a tasty "cereal" that horses enjoy.
- Chia can be safely fed daily. We recommend feeding daily 5 to 7 days/week.
- Chia Seed Feeding Recommendation:
- Feed 2 ounces (1 scoop = 1/3 cup) per horse for daily maintenance.
- Feed 4 ounces (2 scoops = 2/3 cup) per horse daily for health issues, heavy work, competition, hauling or sand clearing treatment. Horses at competition, rehab, seniors or weanlings may also benefit from the higher daily loading dose.
